Huawei P9 by Kristian Dowling
It brings me great pleasure to show you guys my latest video on the new Huawei Mobile P9, co-engineered by Leica Camera, in collaboration with Huawei Mobile Australia. I've been using the phone as some of you know for the last couple of months. Not only is it an awesome smartphone, but it is truly capable of producing some amazing results with new technology never seen before on smartphones. Special thanks to Pong Boonsoong who captured my interest in the product.
BAG REVIEW | Oberwerth Freiburg
The lusting after bags is as addictive to photographers as the lusting after new gear – GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) is a disease without treatment! A photographer can never have enough cameras, lenses, lighting, and of course, bags. Finding the perfect bag is part of the photographic experience, not unlike the quest for the perfect photograph.
Enter the Oberwerth Freiburg. Possibly the most expensive bag in it’s class and upon first impressions, it would be normal to question why such a simplistic looking bag could (rightfully) command such a high price. I decided to give this bad a very good run through for the last 3 months to really see if it could take the top spot as the no.1 camera bag in this market segment. You may have read my review on the Wotancraft Ryker , which I absolutely love, but it did fall a little short of perfection due to it’s weight, so it I was keen to see if the lighter Oberwerth Freiburg could (literally) give it a run for it’s money.
The Leica SL (type 601) Review: Part 2 - User Experience
So by now some of you may have been fortunate enough to secure you very own Leica SL since the November 16 retail release, and I bet there are some excited people out there wondering how well this camera performs – more so over time, and not in an 'extensive' five-minute test. The initial reaction from the market was both positive and maybe a little overwhelming, with many expecting a more compact amateur-based camera. The specs indicate otherwise - a professional mirrorless camera, and that is exactly what the SL is. In fact it is the world’s very first professional mirrorless camera/system. It’s unlike anything we have previously seen, filling the gap left from the R-series, and it’s taken the market by surprise.

Leica Das Wesentliche - SL Launch at Leitz Park
Last night was more than just a product launch, as Dr Andreas Kaufmann said "I's a celebration of Photography" - and a celebration of photography it was, with some heavyweight professional photographers, industry professionals and the usual Leica faces in attendance. Above: (L-R) Leica Chief Dr Andreas Kaufmann, Photographer Fred Mortagne, Photographer Stefano Guindani, Leica CEO Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, Oliver Kaltner and Photographer and host Craig Semetko.
There were approximately 1000 guests all eager to see what the new announcement was all about and they weren't disappointed. I made my way around the venue armed with the SL, capturing people and moments and the reaction was positive. Some were taken back by the size of the 24-90mm lens but understood that the size was necessary to ensure ultimate quality.
The Leica SL (type 601) Professional Mirrorless Camera Review
The LEICA SL (TYP 601)
INTRODUCTION
By now you’ve probably heard of this new autofocus camera and system from Leica Camera – the Leica SL. There have been rumours milling around social networks and forums for weeks and speculation was at an all-time high. Most of the rumours initially pointed to a new M camera, possibly with autofocus. This rumour then changed to an interchangeable lens mirrorless camera based on the Leica Q, which isn’t too far off. Indeed, the Q really surprised many of us when it was launched because it was Leica’s first real success at nailing autofocus, by meeting and exceeding the performance of competing products. It’s clear that Leica’s technological partnering with Panasonic has been a very good match as it’s allowed Leica to catch up to the competition, and in the case of the freshly announced SL, possibly leapfrog it!
Leica Summilux-M 28/1.4 ASPH - 1 month Field Review
I can’t express how excited I was when Leica announced the limited edition M100 set, commemorating Leica’s 100th Anniversary, with a new Summilux-M 28/1.4-ASPH lens in chrome, a little over a year ago. I knew it was only a matter of time before it would become a regular production lens, and I’m very happy that it has finally come to fruition.
